Prom dress collection exceeds goal
ROCKPORT — Earlier this summer a local woman began a campaign to collect
gently used prom gowns sitting in the back of Cape Ann's closets to give them to
girls who will put them to good use.
The goal Jackie Lamoureux set for her Gowns for Girls campaign was to have
50 gowns by summer's end to donate to girls who may not be able to buy a new
one.
Because of all the generous people who have donated gowns, Lamoureux said now has 116 gowns and is still accepting donations.
Thanks to David Mering of Nor’east Cleaners in Gloucester, the gowns are being cleaned and will be ready to distribute before prom season.
Lamoureux said an announcement is coming regarding dates of when young ladies can make an appointment to try on and choose a gown.
